I took some time off from blogging last week to go on vacation. It is a Kern family tradition (like it is not a tradition for everyone else too, but you know) to make the pilgrimage to the beach each summer, and this summer was no different. It was no different in the sense that we made the trek, but there were plenty of differences in this year’s trip. From going at a different time (which we learned was probably one of the best weeks to go) to going with different peeps to having an additional child, to contracting strep throat (yeah, do not ask me how I managed that one) it was different for sure.
All those things made the vacation different, but there was something else. I spent some of my spare moments (and trust me there were not many, considering that besides my four kids, there were six others) really reflecting on life (both personally and professionally) and how I have been approaching things and handling things. I came to some conclusions for both, and decided that when I got back from vacation, it was time to put those plans in action. They are not things that are going to change over night, they are going to take time. With that being said, it has been a few days now since I have returned from vacation and I can already see some minor changes, all for the better.
I have officially gotten back in the saddle again, but this time I got in from the other side. Time will tell if my plans work out, will I continue down this new path or will I slip back into old habits? If today was any indication, I would say I am on my way, but I still had a slip up or two, so we shall see.
I think vacations are a good time to reflect on the things that you want to change and put a plan in place to act on those things. If only I took more vacations, perhaps I would have more opportunities to change for the better (but who is saying that I am so bad the way I am?)
