The question here is can this be done: going from product concept to production in one weekend? Well, we shall see in about a month, because Andrew Hyde, David Cohen and a few other entrepreneurs from Boulder are going to make the impossible possible. They are calling it Startup Weekend and it is being held July 6-8 2007. This is one of the craziest ideas I have come across, and I am liking every aspect of it, it is a killer idea. If they can pull it off, I think they are going to take the game to a whole new level.
This is brilliant on so many levels. For one, it is the great challenge as to whether or not it can be done. This is not something for the faint at heart, it is for those who truly have the drive and passion to get things done. Secondly, they are bringing together a group of people who are passionate about what they do and they will all have equal say in what gets built and equal ownership of the finished product. Thirdly, given the strict time constraints, they are going to be forced to think outside of the box (as if they do not already do that), act quickly, and adapt and change on a dime. They are not going to be burdened with requirements reviews, marketing meetings, etc. that come along with launching something that has a larger time frame.
I am rooting for them to pull this thing off and cannot wait to see what they build. If you are in the Boulder area, you should definitely sign up and participate.

I absolutely love this idea! I can’t wait to see how this goes and host something like this in the DC/NOVA area. You in Will?
Matthew,
Yeah, let’s see how this thing goes. I would definitely be up for it, I think we could pull a team together in the area.
Will
Agreed…very cool. Would love to do something like this in the Boston/Cambridge area.
[...] I love this idea!! Startup Weekend is a great new idea happening the first weekend in July out in Colorado. I learned about it via Will Kern. I’m really excited to see how the weekend goes and hope to see one happen in the DC area this fall. If things go well out in CO — you can expect to hear more about things in the DC/NOVA area from me in the near future! [...]

The hippies had Woodstock. Now it looks like Web 2.0 lovers have their equivalent: Startup Weekend.
