Ecosystems, Products and the Cleaner Fish

Written by Will on Monday, March 26, 2007 – 12:50 pm -

It dawned on me the other day that there are a whole host of ecosystems that spring up around a particular product and consist of viable companies, all in existence because of another company.
What made me come to this realization is that my wife just recently bought the kids Crocs, kind of for their birthday, but mainly because they did not have any shoes that fit them anymore (I know, shame on us). I am sure you have seen those silly little things that people have on their Crocs, they are called Jibitz, that’s right, Jibitz (my kids love them by the way). The company that manufactures these have built a business off of Crocs and as far as I know, those are the only shoes that they work with. They are cute and trendy, but what would happen to Jibitz if Crocs were no longer seen as cool, could they adapt?

Kevin Federline takes on Google

Written by Will on Friday, March 23, 2007 – 6:06 am -

This is a joke, right???

As some of you are most likely already aware, the one and only Kevin Federline, aka K-Fed, has teamed up with Prodege to launch his very own search engine! What in the world is this all about? If you did not believe that there was a Web 2.0 bubble looming, then this should set you straight. I mean, come on, what are they thinking? I must admit, I know nothing about Prodege and their technologies, but do we really need yet another search engine, let alone one fronted by K-Fed? I do not know what was going through their minds when they concocted this idea, if only I could have been a fly on the wall during the brainstorming session when someone stood up and said, hey, what if we teamed up with Kevin Federline and launched a search engine.

There are a ton of alternative search engines out there beyond Google, like (to name a few):

From what I can tell from the time I checked it out, this does not classify as one of the alternatives.

What to do when one of your favorite bloggers takes a hiatus

Written by Will on Thursday, March 22, 2007 – 12:11 pm -

I found myself in this exact situation today, what do I do? One of my favorite bloggers, Noah Kagan of OkDork.com, has decided to take a short break from blogging today, so where does that leave his readers?

Great Question! So, he is taking a break, but will continue to post from time to time, just not daily like he has been doing for quite some time. He recently instituted a pretty cool feature in his blog, he has opened it up to his readers so they can post too. The rules are pretty simple, you register, post your first post (he will approve it) and you are free to post from there on out.
