The dreaded drop…..your cell phone
Written by on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 – 12:28 pm -Have you ever had this happen to you…. you reach into your pocket to pull out your cell phone and you accidentally mishandle it and it slips out of your hand and falls to the ground? In that split second, you are simultaneously spewing explicative words and hoping that it does not break, only to find out that the later rings true. Bummer, right?
Well, perhaps not, according to Dutch researcher Paulette Prins, who has demonstrated that plastic does not have to be a poorer conductor than present-day semi-conductors. In laymen terms, this means that soon your electronic device will be able to survive that dreaded fall to the ground. Why has it taken this long for some scientist to figure this out, have the cell phone makers and electronic device makers (Nokia, Samsung, Motorola to name a few) had such a stranglehold on the innovation that they thought it would be bad for their business if their products could not live forever? Perhaps not, but it sure makes me feel better to think of it that way. I am glad to see that this has been discovered, and I (and I am sure the rest of the world too) cannot wait for this to catch on.
Hopefully in the near future, gone will be the days of this:

Interesting information Will. Lucky for me (or not), I have one of the crappiest phones on the market. One of those archaic Nokia phones. So I drop it all the time. With pleasure =)
Keep up the blog!

Tony,
Yeah, mine is not that great either, but it still scares me when I drop it. I am too cheap to buy a new one!
Thanks for the comment!
