3 social networks, all carving their own niche markets. is it too little too late, or will they all become the next MySpace? It is still a little to early to tell, as the jury is still out. Let me know what you think.

Ning - Very interesting relaunch of an already existing product. Gina, Marc and team went back to the drawing board and came out with something very slick. The idea of putting the power and ownership of a social network in the hands of the community is very interesting. The overall user flow is great, nice mix of drag and drop, ajaxy stuff as well as form based input. Virb - Quietly launched a few days ago by the guys over at PureVolume. I have had a chance to play around with the site and they seemed to get everything right about social networking. Definitely has a big music influence, but then what would you expect given who created it. Cool features include: very clean and simple sign up process, excellent design, easy to use friend invitation flow, ability to turn off customization when viewing a profile and drag and drop reordering of page layout.

Imeem - Of the 3, Imeem took an already popular activity, music sharing, and built a social network around it. Not sure how long it will be before they face legal action by the RIAA, but until then, they should keep on truckin’! You can easily upload media (music, pictures and video) and start sharing. By default, you get a user profile and all of the media you have uploaded, as well as your playlists, are all right there. Users can comment on playlists, videos and music as well as stream playlists. Definitely like the product, let’s just hope they can work out the eventual legal problems that are looming.
